Patt Legg was born into a coal mining family in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. In 1963 Patts family decided to relocate west and the five  moved to the state of Arizona.

In 1972 she returned to her home state of West Virginia and began to study portrait painting techniques extensively with Robert Anderson ."Working with live models for sketching and painting was absolutely the beginning of my love for figure and portrait painting." she states.  Patt has taken various workshops in watercolor and oil. Most recently she studied with watercolorist, Dora Hagge, New York Portrait  artist  Marvin Mattleson  and apprenticed under artist David Weaver studying the Old Master techniques in oil.

Patt  does not attempt to be a great craftsman in her art work --- that is,technique only and purely photographic--but strives to add emotional overtones to all that she does --a portrait figure, landscape or still life. "I want others to not only see my work but to feel it" says Patt. " I know that sounds so cliche' but it is extremely important to me that one can relate to my art in some way -- perhaps recalling a period in their own life."

For more than two decades Patt has entered competitions taking numerous awards,  several solo shows, displays in various galleries, offers original art and reproductions of her work and does commissioned oil portraits for private and corporate clients. Her work is in collections in the US and parts of Europe.     She has recently relocated to Salsibury North Carolina and is part of five-artist co-op. Patt has her working studio space where she is offering private class time to students and she displays her work in her gallery beside her working studio. The newly renovated spaces are located at
